Scale: In this video, the scale of the Leis Houses juxtaposed with that of the houses surrounding it became more apparent. Although I think these three homes are very simple and "honest", they are still magnificent in the setting of Leis.

Construction: This video shows angles of the buildings which may not have made their way into a journal or a blog post. These angles may be less aesthetically pleasing, but reveal more about the construction and craftsmanship of the building. See 1:19 for construction of roof for example.

Environment: This video helps give context to these buildings. I believe the videographer realized the important in the environment, especially in these homes. Therefore he made sure to include shots of Leis, as well as shots of the surroundings of the home, such as the shot of the path leading to the homes at 1:46.

Interior of Building

The interiors are "impeccable planes" with furniture and lighting by Baltensweiler, Rodolfo Dordini, Antonio Citterio, Warren Planter, Eero Saarinen and Peter Zumthor himself.
If you look at the jointed between the walls, you can see the the actual constructions of the houses with jointed boards of pine.

Exterior of Building

All the elements necessary for building, were prefabricated and arrived at the site ready for installation. Since most of the walls of these buildings are glass, Zumthor created a system of boxed spaces within the house, the would act as support columns.
The walls are composed of 6” x 4” pine boards that are assembled, frame free, by tongue and groove.

Surroundings/Environment and Leis

The red pin in this photo is the site of the building. Leis, which is situated 1,526 m above sea level, is the highest settlement occupied all year round in the community of Vals. Today Leis has around 20 inhabitants. There is an inn, and two families tend the mountain meadows. The texture of the rich wooded mountains add to the effect the environment has on the houses, allowing for an almost surreal feeling of solidarity, independence, and alone-ness.
